On July 11, 2020, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced that Kenyan athlete Alex Korio had been handed a two-year ban for Whereabouts Failure, an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV).

The ban was issued after Korio missed three tests within a 12-month period between January and July 2019.

However, Korio's ban was less severe than that of former world record holder Wilson Kipsang, who was slapped with a four-year ban for the same offense just a week earlier.

Korio's authorized representative responded on his behalf, admitting the Anti-Doping Rule Violation and accepting the proposed consequences.

On June 10, Korio signed and returned an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form, accepting the two-year ban.

The ban will commence on July 19, 2019, and will end on July 18, 2021.

Additionally, all competitive results obtained by Korio between July 19, 2019, and March 17, 2020, will be disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points prizes, and appearance money.

Korio is a talented athlete who has represented Kenya at the 2019 World Athletics Championship and won the 2017 Bengaluru 10km run championship.
