On July 11, 2020, Kenya's reported coronavirus infections reached 9,726, marking a significant milestone in the country's fight against the pandemic.

According to the health ministry, the additional 278 cases were diagnosed among 1,403 samples analyzed within a 24-hour period.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi noted that the country's COVID-19 case fatality rate had dropped to 1.89% with 184 deaths reported since March 27, three of which occurred within 24 hours leading to Saturday.

Notably, this new fatality rate is a decline from the 2% rate recorded in the beginning of the month, 2.5% in June, 3.4% in May, and 5.1% recorded in April.

During an assessment tour of health facilities in Kwale, Mwangangi emphasized the importance of adhering to COVID-19 mitigation measures to safeguard health facilities from being overwhelmed with a surge in infections.

"We want to appreciate our healthcare workers as they fight this pandemic, during this hard times. It is now our responsibility to ensure that the virus is contained by observing the measures in place," the Health CAS urged.

She also called on the public to maintain physical distance, wash their hands regularly, and resist the habit of gathering in large groups.
