Kenya has reported 278 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 9,726, as of July 11, 2020.
According to Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi, the new cases were identified from a sample size of 1,403.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kwale on Saturday, Mwangangi noted that the government cannot force everyone to adhere to the set guidelines, but many Kenyans are following the rules.
"As we open the borders, there is a likelihood of an increase in numbers," she said.
Three more patients have succumbed to the virus, bringing the death toll to 184, while 99 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,832.
Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth reiterated that healthcare workers are more exposed to the virus and are being given personal protective equipment (PPE) and psychosocial support to ensure their safety.
The new cases are distributed across various counties, including Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, Nakuru, and Mombasa.
