On Saturday, July 11, 2020, Kenya reported 278 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 9,726 since the first case was reported on March 13.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi provided the update during a visit to Kwale County, where officials from the ministry were assessing the county's plans to combat the disease and determining the support needed.
As part of their assessment, the officials had previously visited Makueni, Kilifi, and Mombasa counties.
Dr. Mwangangi also announced that the number of recoveries had increased to 2,832, with 99 more patients being discharged.
The death toll rose by three to reach 184.
During the visit to Kwale County, Dr. Mwangangi noted that as of July 11, the county had recorded 139 cases of the virus, with no patients being treated in hospital.
She added that most of the cases had recovered, with only six patients under home-based care.
Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya stated that the county was well-prepared to combat the disease, with a local laboratory conducting tests and health workers trained in providing home-based care to minimize congestion at health facilities.
Chief and ward administrators had also been trained, he said.
"We have no active case at the moment," Governor Mvurya noted, urging residents to adhere to regulations to curb the spread of the disease.
