KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Mrs. Rebecca Miano, has been appointed to the World Bank Group's Advisory Council on Gender and Development, effective July 2, 2020.
As a member of the Advisory Council, Mrs. Miano will join distinguished representatives from government ministries, the private sector, academia, and non-profit institutions to look into progress and constraints to gender equality globally and provide feedback and guidance on the bank's work on gender equality and women's voice.
Since its inception in 2011, the Council has been instrumental in helping the bank strengthen its contributions towards closing gaps between men and women.
According to World Bank Group's Managing Director, Development Policy and Partnerships, Mari E Pangestu, the Council's work is crucial in achieving the bank's goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and promoting shared prosperity.
“Gender development and mainstreaming is a major catalyst in organizations as it contributes towards growth,” said Mrs. Miano, referencing the Pink Energy Initiative, which has been instrumental in encouraging and facilitating ladies to grow boldly into their potential and succeed in their respective fields.
Ms. Pangestu added that the World Bank Group began implementing a new gender strategy in 2016, geared towards deepening the institution's contribution towards key results, including closing first-generation gaps in education and health, and enhancing women's voice and agency.
