On Saturday morning, the music industry lost a talented artist in Maureen Achieng, popularly known as Lady Maureen, who passed away in Uriri, Migori County.
As news of her death spread, the Gor Mahia fraternity joined thousands of Kenyans in mourning the loss of the Ohangla musician.
Lady Maureen was a beloved figure among K'Ogalo fans, thanks to her song 'Gor Mahia spirit', which praised the club's officials and players for their contributions to the team's success.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is also the club's patron, led the tributes, praising Lady Maureen's resilience in the competitive music industry.
'My condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans of Lady Maureen,' Odinga said in a statement. 'Achieng' was immensely talented and very dynamic; always adapting to new trends in a very competitive music industry. May she Rest In Eternal Peace.'
Club officials, including chairman Ambrose Rachier, organising secretary Ronald Ngala, and players Anthony Akumu, Musa Mohamed, Edwin Lavatsa, and Dan Makori, were all mentioned in her song.
Club CEO Omondi Aduda also sent his condolences, saying Lady Maureen was a great Gor Mahia fan and her music was popular among supporters.
'Lady Maureen was part of Gor Mahia and her song for the club has stood the test of time and still resonates well with the fans,' Aduda said. 'Our condolences to her family during this difficult time of mourning and may her soul rest in peace.'
