Pilot and Perfumer Geraldine Waruguru: A Woman of Many Talents

July 11, 2020

Geraldine Waruguru, a 36-year-old pilot with Kenya Airways, has spent 14 years flying passenger planes around the world. But what many may not know is that she is also a perfumer and the founder of Scents by Geraldine, a perfume brand she launched in 2016.

Waruguru, who is also a mother of a seven-year-old boy, has always been fascinated by perfumes. She has spent Sh20,000 or more on a fragrance and has a keen sense of smell that allows her to detect even the subtlest notes in a perfume.

After 10 years of flying, Waruguru decided to take a leap of faith and set up her own perfume brand. She partnered with a German company to produce her first fragrance, Whole by Geraldine, in 2017. The fragrance is priced between Sh4,500 and Sh6,000.

Waruguru's journey into perfumery was not without its challenges. She had to research and experiment with different scents and ingredients to create a unique fragrance that would appeal to her target market.

Despite the challenges, Waruguru is proud of what she has achieved. She believes that her perfume brand has the potential to compete with international brands and is working hard to convince buyers that there are quality and genuine perfume brands available locally.

Waruguru's story is a testament to the power of entrepreneurship and the importance of following one's passion. She is an inspiration to many, particularly women, who are looking to start their own businesses.
