On a fateful day in May, 10-year-old Limo Poriot's life took a drastic turn when he was shot by police during an operation in Naudo village, Tiaty. The incident left him with a leg amputated, forcing him to adapt to a new way of life.
According to Poriot, he was herding his parents' goats with another child when a team of officers drove past. Out of fear, they ran and hid in a nearby bush, unaware that one of the officers had aimed at Poriot. He was shot twice, leaving him with injuries on both legs.
One of the officers, who Poriot claims ran to where he was lying, knelt down and apologized before leaving him for dead. The officer's actions have left Poriot and his family seeking justice.
Poriot's brother, Alex Krop, said they regret sending him to the bush to graze the animals. 'The boy was innocent, all we need is justice as a family. His life will never be the same again,' Krop said.
Poriot's father, Hosea Lomada, expressed helplessness in catering for the boy's daily medical bills, while his mother, Christina Lomada, said the child is struggling to cope with the new way of life.
Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula promised to review the matter and assist the boy in his recovery.
