On Saturday, July 11, 2020, Kenyans woke up to the sad news of the passing of Ohangla singer Lady Maureen, who died at her relative's home in Uriri, Migori County.

Lady Maureen, whose real name is Maureen Achieng, succumbed to a long illness at 3:30am, according to her family.

Her cousin, Bella Achieng, confirmed the sad news, stating that Lady Maureen had been living with her at the time of her death.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga took to Twitter to express his condolences, saying, 'My condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Lady Maureen. Achieng' was immensely talented and very dynamic; always adapting to new trends in a very competitive music industry. May she Rest In Eternal Peace.'

The hashtag #RIPLadyMaureen trended on Twitter in Kenya, with online users taking to the micro-blogging site to mourn the departed chartbuster.

It is worth noting that Lady Maureen's death comes just a few months after she gave an update on her health condition in January 2020, allaying fears that she was in critical condition.
