Lady Maureen, the iconic Ohangla queen, has left us. The talented artiste, whose real name is Maureen Achieng, passed away at around 3am in Migori county, where she was living with her cousin.

She had been battling health issues for the past two years, with frequent hospital visits.

Her untimely death was announced by Rumba maestro and songwriter Wuod Fibi, who expressed his condolences on social media.

‘We have lost a hero…..another blow to the Luo Music industry and Kenya at Large. Rest in peace Lady Maureen,’ he posted.

Wuod Fibi also shared a personal message, referencing their collaboration on the song ‘Abiro Iri Nyasaye’, which he described as a prophetic goodbye song.

‘This was the last song I did for you the queen of Ohangla, it was a prophetic song and a goodbye song. Rest in peace Mama. Your legacy will forever live on.’

ODM Communications Director Philip Etale also paid tribute to Lady Maureen, along with Dr Adisa Lugaliki, in a heartfelt social media post.

‘RIP Dr. Doreen and Lady Maureen. You were great ladies. In your different capacities; you have left a mark. Fare-thee-well our dear sisters.’
