President Uhuru Kenyatta's efforts to reorganize his Jubilee Party have taken a new turn, with the sacking of Soy MP Caleb Kositany from the party's National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to sources, the move is part of the President's plan to ensure the party is 'clean from within' ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking to the press, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju emphasized that the ongoing purge in the ruling party is not personal, but rather a necessary step to ensure the party remains loyal to President Kenyatta's agenda.
'You are either with the President or not. If you are with the President you have to toe the line and support his development agenda. The President has nothing personal with anyone. All he wants is to develop the country and we will work with like-minded people to achieve that,' Tuju said.
MP Kositany, who had earlier predicted his axing, has vowed to form a new party, Jubilee Asili, which he claims will bring together those who believe in the original idea of a democratic party and a detribalized Kenya.
'My conscious cannot allow me to continue serving in a party where even my little idea is not recognized or is not listened to,' Kositany stated.
President Kenyatta's move has been welcomed by some, including Jubilee Deputy Party Chairman David Murathe, who said, 'The party must have only the most loyal and those committed to President Uhuru's agenda. We are taking no prisoners. If he has to go, he will go. We do not want any distractions on the president's agenda.'
