On June 30, the Meru County Assembly passed a motion reinstating MCAs Kimathi Ithibua, Romano Mwito, and Gabriel Chokera to various committees, despite being dewhipped by their party.

The decision was made in defiance of a Party of National Unity decision to dewhip the MCAs.

Four petitioners, Jacob Mantili Kinganga, John Muriki Rukunga, Harun Murangiri Kobia, and Patrick Mungathia Mwila, have taken the matter to court, seeking an order to stop the implementation of the motion.

Justice A Mabeya certified the matter as urgent and prohibited the implementation of the motion for seven days.
