Former Cabinet Minister Protus Momanyi Dies at 87

Former Cabinet Minister Protus Momanyi has passed away at the age of 87 after a long battle with diabetes.

According to his family, Dr Momanyi succumbed to his illness at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Dr Momanyi was a two-time MP for Bonchari constituency and served as Minister for Tourism and Wildlife.

He first ventured into politics in 1969, contesting for the then Wanjare/South Mugirango constituency but lost.

However, he captured the newly created Bonchari constituency in 1988 and was appointed assistant minister for Transport and Communications.

Dr Momanyi recaptured the seat in 1992 and was appointed Minister for Tourism in 1996, a position he held until 1998.

He is survived by his wife Teresia Moraa and four children.
