On July 11, 2020, a Nakuru resident, Laban Omusundi, moved to court to prevent the county assembly and executive from debating and implementing the 2020/2021 budget.
Omusundi, who refers to himself as a pauper, claims the county government failed to conduct public participation during the budgeting process as required by law.
He argues that the implementation of the budget would have a devastating effect on residents of the county, including himself.
The budget, which is expected to be debated in the county assembly next week, estimates a total of Sh14.5 billion for the current financial year, with a projected increase to over Sh20 billion, including nearly Sh9 billion to be rolled over from the last financial year for development projects.
