Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki, a Kenyan doctor in her late 30s, died from COVID-19 on April 11, 2020, just 48 hours after being admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

Her colleagues and patients took to social media to pay tribute to the doctor, who was known fondly as 'Kadoreen.'

Dr. Lugaliki's death has raised concerns about the safety of healthcare workers in Kenya, with 361 healthcare workers testing positive for COVID-19 and 181 deaths reported so far.

Healthcare workers have expressed their displeasure at the lack of personal protective gear and the government's handling of the crisis.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had instructed that part of the Sh5 billion allocated for COVID-19 relief should be used to create a 'welfare package' for healthcare workers, but the funds were only released last week.

Experts warn that healthcare workers are at risk of infection due to the lack of protective equipment, and that the virus can be transmitted through airborne particles.
