Kenya University Students Organisation Cancels Elections Amid COVID-19 Pandemic ¶
Kenya University Students Organisation (KUSO) has cancelled its annual elections scheduled for July 7, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision was made by KUSO's leadership, citing President Uhuru Kenyatta's restrictions on political gatherings as a major factor in the cancellation.
According to KUSO President Neema Sheikh, the elections would remain cancelled until further notice, with the organisation's leadership assuring members of its commitment to conduct the polls at the earliest opportunity possible when the situation returns back to normal.
Neema Sheikh warned members and interested candidates against falling prey to fake information being peddled on social media by imposters.
"KUSO holds its elections on the 7th day of the month of July annually, but the much anticipated election could not be conducted this year because of the COVI-19 pandemic which has affected so many sectors of the country," Neema Sheikh said in a statement.
The organisation's leadership also reiterated its commitment to support and protect the interests of comrades at all times, particularly for those adversely affected by the pandemic.
Neema Sheikh thanked her colleagues for remaining steadfast in championing for the interests of KUSO members despite the many challenges and hurdles brought about by COVID-19.
