Published on July 10, 2020, the Ministry of Health in Kenya revealed the costs associated with treating COVID-19 patients.

According to the Ministry's Director General, Patrick Amoth, patients with mild symptoms pay Sh. 21,400 per day, while those with severe symptoms requiring supplementary oxygen pay Sh. 51,000 per day.

Those requiring ICU critical care support, including intubation and ventilator support, pay Sh. 71,000 per day, Dr. Amoth noted.

The high costs have led the Ministry to encourage home-based care for COVID-19 patients, with Dr. Amoth stating that developing strategies to manage patients at home is crucial.
