July 10, 2020 - Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Badi has outlined his ambitious plans for the next 100 days, focusing on improving healthcare, water supply, and infrastructure in the city's informal settlements.

Speaking during an interview, General Badi emphasized the importance of setting up fully functional hospitals in Nairobi's informal settlements. 'In the next 100 days, I have been tasked to set up 24 fully functional hospitals in Nairobi's informal settlements. The centres should be up and running with complete medical equipment for the residents,' he stated.

He also highlighted the need to increase bed capacity in other hospitals in the county, including Mama Lucy Hospital, which is in the process of setting up a new wing that would elevate it to a Level 4 hospital.

Regarding the water shortage in the county, General Badi stated that the NMS had already dug 96 boreholes to supply water. 'We are looking to having another 100 boreholes each with a pump and stainless steel tank for 24-hour delivery,' he added.

The NMS Director also emphasized the importance of making the water supply in the county efficient. He stated that the Northern Water Connector Tunnel would supply water to the capital and the issue of water rationing would reduce significantly in the next two to three months.

Another notable project is the expansion of non-motorized pathways in the Central Business District (CBD). General Badi disclosed that the plan was to connect the whole of the CBD with walkways and cyclists paths and eventually to all estates.

He also mentioned that the body was exploring underground parking to cater for private vehicles as well as sunken car parks for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
