Kenyan Doctor Doreen Lugaliki Dies from COVID-19

Dr. Doreen Lugaliki, a 38-year-old Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, has become the first Kenyan doctor to succumb to COVID-19. She contracted the virus while working at The Nairobi South Hospital.

According to a statement by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Dr. Lugaliki was admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital ICU unit. Her colleagues described her as a diligent doctor whose best years were yet to come.

Dr. Ouma Oluga, a colleague of Dr. Lugaliki, expressed his condolences, saying, 'We shall miss you dearly. Deep Condolences to the entire medical fraternity, friends and the family.'

The Ministry of Health had announced 447 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the country's case load closer to the 9,000 mark.
