On July 10, 2020, the Gikuyu Council of Elders addressed the press in Nairobi, led by Supreme Kikuyu Elder Kariuki wa Kibui.
They expressed their disappointment with Deputy President William Ruto's actions, saying he has no interest in the welfare of Kenyans.
'We have seen the effort President Uhuru Kenyatta is putting in uniting the country as well as our people. We expect every leader to stand behind the head of state,' Kariuki wa Kibui said.
The elders also questioned why some Mt. Kenya MPs are insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta, and expressed their support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) if it guarantees peace for Kenyans.
'We support any changes and reforms that will ensure equity both at the national level and the county level in sharing of the national and local resources,' Kibui added.
