On July 10, 2020, a Covid-19 outbreak was reported at St Andrew's School in Kenya's Molo sub-county, leaving residents in a state of fear.

The school, which caters to both local and international pupils, has been a temporary home to learners and teachers since March when schools were closed due to the pandemic.

According to the Nakuru County health department, the outbreak was discovered after a private laboratory conducted tests on 24 samples taken from the institution, revealing 17 positive cases.

Dr Gichuki Kariuki, the county health executive, confirmed that all the patients have been isolated in the school and that the health department has initiated contact tracing to contain the spread of the virus.

"A total of 24 samples were picked from the institution and taken for testing where 17 were found positive. All the patients have been isolated in the school," Dr Kariuki said.

It is believed that the patients might have contracted the disease from visitors who recently landed at the school in a private chopper.
