On July 10, 2020, the High Court made a significant ruling in favor of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, ordering the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to return two firearms and a motor vehicle.

Justice Luka Kimaru dismissed an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to revise an earlier order made by a magistrate court on June 4, 2020, citing lack of merit.

The items in question, including a Range Rover and 104 bullets, were seized from Echesa's house in Karen, Nairobi, in February this year.

Police had detained the vehicle at the DCI parking yard and confiscated three pistol holsters, but the High Court deemed it unjustified for the DCI to continue holding these items.
