On Thursday night, popular video-making platform TikTok crashed, leaving millions of users unable to access the service for hours. The app's 'like' function was also affected, with users seeing zero likes on their videos.
TikTok acknowledged the issue, stating, 'Hi TikTok community! We're aware that some users are experiencing app issues – working to quickly fix things, and we'll share updates here!.'
Hours later, the app's support account tweeted, 'Issue update: We're back in action. Thanks for your patience today!'
TikTok has taken the world by storm with its 15 to 60-second clips for every genre, from comedy to baking and even maths help. The app has proven very popular with young people, with over one billion users around the world.
However, the app has also faced criticism, with a new report warning about fake TikTok links that contain dangerous malware. The Chinese firm has come under fire as a potential threat, with the Indian government banning 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, last month.
On Monday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US is 'looking into' banning TikTok.
