On July 1, 2020, the government of Kenya appointed Florence Kerubo Omundi as the new deputy commissioner of prisons in an acting capacity.

Ms Omundi will deputise Wycliffe Ogaro, the prisons boss, and is expected to guide the enforcement and interpretation of the Prisons Act and other laws related to the prisons service.

She holds a Master's degree in Economics, Social Development Planning and Management Social Development from Swansea University.

A circular released by the Ministry of Interior stated that her appointment is effective from July 1, 2020.
