On July 10, 2020, the Nakuru County Health executive, Kariuki Gichuki, announced that the county had 26 people with Covid-19, with 17 of them being students and staff at St. Andrews School in Nakuru.
According to a reliable source, the students who tested positive are non-Kenyans who were stranded at the school after Kenya suspended international flights.
St. Andrews School attracts learners from various countries, including the US, UK, South Africa, and China.
Following the reports, Governor Lee Kinyanjui warned of increased Covid-19 infections in the county after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted travel restrictions on Monday.
He urged the public to learn and impose personal restrictions to mitigate exposure, warning that the coming weeks are critical to containing the curve.
The governor also promised that his government would continue being vigilant by conducting screening at its borders and along the Great North Road.
As of July 10, 2020, Nakuru county had 203 patients in self-isolation and seven others at the Kenya Industrial Training Institute Quarantine Centre.
