On Thursday, July 9, 2020, a group of 10 bandits raided the home of Erupe Nakeno, a teacher at John Paul II Primary School in Nyahururu, in a brazen attack that left him dead.
According to Sossian MCA Jacob Edung, the bandits arrived at the homestead at around 11pm, shooting several times in the air to scare away residents before entering the home.
It was then that one of the bullets hit Nakeno as he opened the door to check what was happening, and he succumbed to the injuries as he was being taken to Rumuruti Subcounty Hospital.
Laikipia county commissioner Daniel Nyameti confirmed the incident and said police officers have been deployed to the area to look for the attackers.
Edung demanded that security be beefed up in the area, saying cases of bandit attacks had resumed and that the government must act to end these deaths so that people can live in peace.
"For how long will we be losing lives? The government must now act and end these deaths so that our people live in peace. This is one of the most learned people in our society and we have lost him," Edung said.
