Published on July 10, 2020, a tragic incident occurred at Kendege village, Kuria East Sub County, where a man was beaten to death by his neighbour.
The deceased, Musa Muniko, had complained to his neighbour, Marwa Chacha, about his cows eating his maize plantation. However, the verbal exchange turned deadly, and Marwa used crude weapons to beat Muniko to death.
According to the deceased's mother, Hannah Mwita, the two families had initially agreed that the accused family would pay Muniko's family 20 head of cattle as compensation for the destroyed maize. However, the accused family later reneged on the agreement and wanted to compensate only six animals, which led to the deceased family seeking justice through other means.
The wife of the deceased, Ghati Musa, stated that her husband was attacked in broad daylight, and the culprit is now at large. A brother to the deceased, Dickson Masui Mwita, added that the accused, Marwa Chacha, is currently in neighbouring Tanzania and has evaded efforts to bring him back to face justice.
The Maeta location chief, Tabitha Muruga, has taken up the issue with the relevant authorities to help the family seek justice. Efforts are underway to bring Marwa back to Kenya from his hideaway in Tanzania.
