Dr. Doreen Lugaliki, a 38-year-old obstetrician-gynaecologist, has left a void in the medical fraternity after succumbing to COVID-19 complications at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

According to the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU), Dr. Lugaliki was admitted to the hospital for two days before her untimely demise on Thursday.

On Friday, July 10, KMPDU announced the sad news on their official Facebook page, expressing their condolences to Dr. Lugaliki's family and friends.

"We have lost a hard working obstetrician/gynecologist, a mother, a friend and a colleague to the devastating effects of Covid-19," KMPDU stated.

Dr. Lugaliki, who was attached to Nairobi South Hospital, was remembered by her patients as "extremely professional and nice".

Dr. Mercy Korir, a TV presenter at KTN, also paid tribute to Dr. Lugaliki, describing her as a "young doctor with so much to offer".

Just nine days prior to Dr. Lugaliki's passing, the Ministry of Health reported that 186 health workers had tested positive for coronavirus, but none had died from the virus.
