On Friday morning, a devastating road accident occurred on the Kitui-Machakos road in Machakos county, claiming the lives of at least five people and leaving several others injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the crash happened when a 14-seater matatu collided with a truck, and a third matatu then rammed into the two vehicles.
Mwala sub-county traffic base commander Jack Ila attributed the accident to reckless driving, warning motorists to observe traffic rules to avoid such incidents.
"Motorists must observe traffic rules to avoid some of these accidents," he said.
Three passengers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical attention at the Machakos Level 5 hospital.
More than 10 other passengers who sustained injuries are currently being treated at the hospital.
The bodies have been moved to the hospital's morgue, and the mangled wrecks have been towed to the nearby Masii Police Station.
