On July 10, 2020, the Attorney General's office unveiled a digital platform to streamline marriage registration services in Kenya.
The new e-registration platform allows couples to initiate and complete the registration process online, eliminating the need for multiple visits to the marriage registry.
Thanks to this initiative, partners will now only visit the registrar's office on the final day after completing all other processes online.
This move aims to reduce human traffic and support efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.
How the process works ¶
Couples will log in to oag.ecitizen.go.ke to fill registration forms, which will be processed within 21 days.
After uploading documents, couples will make online payments through end-to-end cash transactions.
Once the 21-day period lapses, couples will be notified online and scheduled for an appointment date to visit the Registrar.
On the marriage day, couples will be accompanied by two witnesses, and the registrar will officiate the ceremony within 20 minutes.
The marriage registry has announced that services will be decentralized to other regions in August, currently limited to Nairobi residents due to high demand.
