July 10, 2020, marked a day of controversy in the Premier League as multiple incorrect VAR decisions came to light.

Manchester United's 3-0 win over Aston Villa was marred by a penalty awarded to the Red Devils, which replays showed should not have been given. Bruno Fernandes had been awarded the penalty after Ezri Konsa was adjudged to have fouled him, but it was later revealed that the midfielder had trodden on his opponent.

United legend Peter Schmeichel, who also played for Villa, took to Twitter to call VAR 'a joke' and stated that a penalty should not have been given.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho was left fuming after a penalty was not given in their 0-0 draw with Bournemouth. A VAR check was conducted, but the spot-kick was denied, and the game ended in a draw that damaged Spurs' hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

Mourinho was so incensed by the decision that he walked out of his press conference following the match. He later vented his anger on Sky Sports, stating that 'everyone in the world' knew the spot-kick should have been given.
