Kenya has been left to mourn the loss of its first doctor to COVID-19, Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki, a dedicated gynaecologist who succumbed to the virus on Friday morning at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Published on July 10, 2020, the Kenyan Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) took to their official Facebook account to pay tribute to one of their own, describing Dr. Lugaliki as a 'hardworking obstetrician/gynaecologist, a mother, a friend and a colleague'.
According to KMPDU, Dr. Lugaliki contracted the virus while in the line of duty and passed away 48 hours after being admitted to hospital for treatment.
The Ministry of Health had earlier announced 447 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 8,975, with a total of 64 patients discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,657.
