Kenyan Doctor Dies from COVID-19, Leaves Behind Twins

A 39-year-old Kenyan doctor has died from COVID-19, leaving behind two 13-year-old twins. The doctor, who was a gynecologist and obstetrician, was a graduate of the University of Nairobi and had a passion for helping expectant mothers.

According to reports, the doctor was admitted to a private hospital in Nairobi on July 8, 2020, and died within 48 hours due to complications from the virus. The hospital has not been named for privacy concerns.

As of July 10, 2020, more than 200 health workers in Kenya had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The Kenya Medical Association has called for an increase in health workers handling the pandemic to minimize exposure and allow doctors to work in shifts.

"We have lost one of our own as a doctors' fraternity to Covid-19. A young doctor with so much to offer," said Doctor Mercy Korir, a colleague of the deceased doctor.

The doctor's last words to her colleagues were that she was being intubated, a process where a tube is inserted into the airway to assist with breathing. "The doctors there are still traumatised from the loss of one of their own, under their care as they tried to save her life," a source at the hospital disclosed.

The doctor's family has been left to mourn her loss, and her colleagues have paid tribute to her dedication and passion for her work. "My aim is to promote optimal wellness for women and I share a sense of duty and enthusiasm towards our goal to keep a professional atmosphere," reads a post from her social media pages.
