As the Covid-19 pandemic keeps children at home, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has emphasized the importance of parents taking a more direct role in raising their children.
Speaking during a food donation event, Kalonzo said that while teachers are there to educate children, it is ultimately the responsibility of parents to instill discipline through counseling.
“Teachers are there to help educate your children but it is you as parents who should be able to instill discipline, as you bring up your child,” he said.
Kalonzo expressed hope that the pandemic period would see a reduction in cases of teenage pregnancies and other social ills associated with teenage hood.
He also noted that while a policy allowing teenage mothers to continue with their studies after giving birth is in place, it should not be used to defend teenage pregnancies, which should be discouraged altogether.
