July 10, 2020 - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released the 2020 results of international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) System, with OPPO emerging as a top contender.
As of June 30, 2020, OPPO had filed an impressive 49,000+ patent applications, with over 19,000 granted patents globally. Notably, 88% of these applications were for invention patents, a testament to the company's commitment to innovation.
By leveraging the PCT, an international treaty with over 150 contracting states, OPPO has been able to seek protection for its inventions in multiple countries. Since 2009, the company has been actively expanding its patent applications globally, moving up the ranks from No. 17 in 2019 to No. 5 in 2020.
OPPO's patent portfolio is diverse, with over 3,100 families of global patent applications, including 1,000 families of 5G standard patents declared to the ETSI and over 3,000 5G standard-related proposals submitted to 3GPP. The company has also deployed its 5G standard patents in over 20 countries and regions worldwide.
In the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), computer vision, speech technology, and machine learning, OPPO has filed over 2,100 global patent applications. The company has also applied for over 6,700 image patents worldwide and owns over 2,250 granted patents in this area.
OPPO's VOOC flash charging technology has garnered significant attention, with over 2,800 patents applied for worldwide and over 1,250 granted patents. The company is forming a flash patent ecosystem, including barrier patents, industry standards, and technology certifications.
