Published on July 10, 2020, a fatal road accident occurred at Kingaatuani on the Kitui-Machakos road, claiming the lives of five people and leaving 13 others seriously injured.
A lorry collided head-on with a 14-seater matatu, causing a devastating impact. The driver of the second matatu, who crashed into the wreckage of the first matatu, has been quoted as saying that he did not see the wreckage in time.
Three passengers died instantly, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical attention at the Machakos Level 5 hospital. Thirteen other passengers who sustained critical injuries are currently recuperating at the same hospital.
The decedents were transferred to the Machakos Level 5 hospital Mortuary, while the vehicles were towed to Masii police station for further investigation.
