On July 10, 2020, the M-PESA Foundation announced a significant donation to support healthcare workers in Kenya. The Foundation will provide personal protective equipment (PPEs) to over 3,000 healthcare workers in 7 counties.

According to John Ohaga, a trustee of the M-PESA Foundation, the PPEs will include surgical masks, N95 masks, hand sanitisers, gowns, hazmat suits, and face shields. The Foundation has partnered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) to distribute the PPEs at an estimated cost of Sh20 million.

Ohaga emphasized the importance of protecting frontline health workers, stating, “Never has there been a more appropriate time to focus on health workers. Rarely have they faced such danger on such a massive scale. We have an obligation to keep frontline health workers safe, including making sure they have the personal protective equipment they need, and we are doing our part as M-PESA Foundation to support them.”

The 7 counties that will receive the PPEs are Kwale, Machakos, Nairobi, Kilifi, Migori, Kiambu, and Busia. This donation is part of the M-PESA Foundation's efforts to support healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
