COVID-19 Fears Prompt Governors to Prepare for the Worst ¶
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the country, five governors have taken proactive measures to ensure their safety and that of their families. According to reports, they have installed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities in their private homes.
Among the governors who have taken this precautionary measure are two from Nyanza region, two from the Coast, and one from the upper Eastern region. One of the governors has a pre-existing condition, while two others lead counties that were hit by the virus between April and May.
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and Samburu Governor Moses Lonolkulal have refuted claims that they have installed ICU facilities in their homes, stating that their counties are focused on installing the facilities in public hospitals.
Meanwhile, ODM leader Raila Odinga is recuperating at a Dubai-based hospital after undergoing successful surgery. His close allies have reported that he may not return to the country soon, as he has been advised by doctors and his family members to have sufficient rest before jetting back.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has given Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio three days to lobby senators to support amendments proposed by the Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) on the new formula of sharing of county funds. The proposal, if passed, will see some counties lose huge sums of money totaling to millions and billions of shillings.
Deputy President William Ruto has adopted new campaign strategies to popularize his 2022 presidential bid. He has been hosting church leaders and youths at his Karen residence, giving out donations and assorted goods aimed at empowering them and vulnerable families.
