Kenyan Cyclist Completes 565km Journey from Nairobi to Mombasa in Two Days

Salim Nasir, a Kenyan cyclist, has completed a remarkable 565km journey from Nairobi to Mombasa in just two days, covering over 500kms in the process.

According to an interview with Nairobi News, Nasir started cycling as a hobby and has been training for several years. He has completed a Mombasa-Dar es Salaam cycling challenge thrice and used this experience to prepare for the recent challenge.

Nasir faced several challenges during the journey, including high maintenance costs for his bicycle and safety concerns due to road bullying. However, he received support from the Kenyan police at roadblocks, who were cooperative and understanding of his situation.

Despite the challenges, Nasir remained determined and focused on his goal. He cycled a total of 565 kilometres, with seven stopovers along the way. His first stop was at Salama town for breakfast, followed by stops at Mtito Andei, Maungu, Taru, Kaloleni, Takaungu, and finally Mombasa town.

Nasir plans to cycle all the way back to Nairobi and is also planning to ride to Mecca in Saudi Arabia with other colleagues to perform the pilgrimage. He believes that with the right infrastructure and support, he is willing to ride around the world anytime.

When asked about his advice for anyone who wishes to do the same, Nasir said, 'It is all a mindset. Before you consult your heart, your mind must be very strong and daring to put the right energy to achieve your goals.'

Nasir is currently using a Trek Madone road bike and hopes to transform cycling into an avenue for humanitarian causes in society. He believes that cycling can be used to raise awareness about issues such as gender-based violence, drug abuse, and mental health issues.
