On Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe addressed a question about Pastor Robert Burale's recent coronavirus diagnosis during a Covid-19 briefing in Mombasa. He referred to Burale as Robert Murathe, stating that he does not know who Burale is.

CS Kagwe expressed skepticism about the allegations, saying that he cannot respond to every rumour. He wondered who would have paid Burale and why.

‘I don’t know anything about Robert Murathe, I don’t know what he’s doing, he’s probably sick. I have never heard of this guy. You are saying he is supposed to have been paid, by who? When it comes to issues like rumours, if I were to respond to every rumour I would be very busy,’ he said.

On Monday, Pastor Burale announced that he had tested positive for coronavirus via Facebook. He claimed that he had to wait for President Uhuru Kenyatta to give his speech before sharing the news.

Many Kenyans online have claimed that Burale's announcement was a PR stunt, alleging that he had been paid to pull off the move.
