Published on July 9, 2020, Migori County Government under Governor Okoth Obado has allocated Ksh 4.1 million for funeral arrangement and purchase of coffins in the 2020/2021 financial year.

The allocation aims to help locals organize funerals for loved ones who succumb to natural disasters, including tragedies in gold mines.

According to Tom Akungo, the Chairperson of the Budget Committee Migori, the allocation is based on the Public Service Commission Act of 2012 and is lawful.

“The County Government is given an opportunity to accord its members befitting send-offs. We based our allocation on the Public Service Commission Act of 2012. Every action undertaken is therefore lawful and a replica of what happens in the National Budget,” said Tom Akungo.

The allocation comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed county governments to take care of Covid-19 patients in their counties and intensify the fight against coronavirus after reopening the country on July 6.
