On July 9, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) updated its guidance on the transmission of the novel coronavirus, acknowledging emerging evidence of airborne spread.

According to the WHO, airborne transmission of the virus can occur during medical procedures that generate aerosols, such as those involving high-speed jet injectors or nebulizers.

Additionally, the agency noted that some outbreak reports related to indoor crowded spaces have suggested the possibility of aerosol transmission, combined with droplet transmission, in settings such as choir practice, restaurants, or fitness classes.

The WHO's update comes after a group of scientists urged the global body to update its guidance on how the respiratory disease spreads.
