Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has come out to deny claims that he paid Robert Burale to pretend to be sick with COVID-19.

According to Kagwe, he does not know Burale and has not paid him any money to pretend to be sick with the virus.

Speaking in Mombasa on July 9, 2020, Kagwe stated that he believes Burale is indeed a COVID-19 patient after seeing a video of him in hospital.

'I have heard about a man called Robert Murathe, but I do not know him. The media has corrected that his name is Burale, not Murathe,' Kagwe said.

'I am surprised to hear that Burale was paid to pretend to be sick with COVID-19. I do not understand what is going on. To tell the truth, I do not even know this man,' Kagwe added.

Burale had posted a video online claiming to be in hospital with the virus and advising Kenyans to take precautions against COVID-19.

He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

As of now, Kenya has recorded 446 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
