Published on July 9, 2020, the Henley Passport Index revealed that the Kenyan passport has defied the pandemic to retain its position as the 72nd most powerful passport in the world.

The index, which periodically measures the world's most travel-friendly passports, is based on the number of destinations their holders can access visa-free or visa-on-arrival.

According to the latest index, the Japanese passport offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 191 destinations around the world, topping the rankings.

The Kenyan passport, which allows its holders to access 71 destinations around the world without a visa or visa-on-arrival, is ranked seventh in the continent.

Research by Henley & Partners has revealed a strongly positive connection between visa freedom and various indicators of economic freedom, government integrity, and personal or political freedom.

Henley & Partners said the recent ranking did not take temporary bans into account.

The best passports to hold in 2020 include Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Germany, while the worst passports to hold include North Korea, Libya, Nepal, and Somalia.
