On July 9, 2020, High Court judge Justice Weldon Korir ruled against Governor Charity Ngilu's motion to stop her impeachment proceedings by the Kitui County Assembly.

The judge found that Ngilu's motion lacked merit and did not meet the required threshold to grant her conservatory orders.

Ngilu had sought to stop the assembly from tabling and debating her impeachment, citing a lack of fair hearing.

However, Justice Korir noted that impeachment proceedings are akin to election petitions and should be filed in the county where the proceedings are taking place.

He further emphasized the importance of residents having access to the court where such proceedings occur.

Ngilu's application, dated June 24, was dismissed, and the temporary orders she obtained were lifted.

The MCAs had accused Ngilu of gross violation of the Constitution, questionable awarding of county tenders, undermining the assembly's authority, and failure to account for public funds.
