Safaricom has become a familiar name in Kenyan households, but its M-PESA service has been plagued by frequent outages.
On Thursday, the company announced that M-PESA services would be temporarily unavailable due to planned maintenance, which will take place between Thursday at 2359hrs and 0500 hrs.
According to Safaricom, the maintenance is necessary to enable the company to serve customers better. In a statement, the company apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their continued support.
This is not the first time Safaricom has undertaken maintenance of the payment service. In June, maintenance was undertaken on three occasions on June 17, June 25, and June 29. On July 2, the company announced that the service would be temporarily unavailable for the same reasons.
On Twitter, Safaricom tweeted, "Hello Mandela, this is to enable us serve you better. ^WN" on July 9, 2020.
Despite the frequent outages, Safaricom has been making efforts to improve its services. In a recent development, the company picked Ilana Darcy as its new CFO.
