Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi's Abysmal Performance in Parliament

Article 95 of the Constitution of Kenya outlines the roles of a Member of Parliament once elected. Among other responsibilities, MPs are expected to represent their constituents, deliberate on and resolve issues of concern to their people, and make national laws in the National Assembly.

According to the Mzalendo Trust report on the performances of parliamentarians, Oscar Sudi has never uttered a word in the National Assembly since his first election in 2013. This is despite being elected to represent the people of Kapseret constituency, which was created in the run-up to the 2013 elections.

Published on July 9, 2020, the report highlights the plight of the Kapseret people, who have every right to feel duped and shortchanged given Sudi's demeanor and performance outside Parliament.

As a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and a vocal member of the Tanga Tanga brigade, Sudi has mastered the art of outrageously attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at will while engaging in round-the-clock politicking.

His fanatical support of the DP is seen as a tactic to safeguard his own political survival. This was evident a few years back when he broke ranks with Ruto but hurriedly wormed his way into the DP's inner circle after he became the subject of a probe over questionable academic certificates.

Despite being charged in court for forging academic certificates, Sudi's massive wealth remains a topic of concern. Many still wonder how the once-ordinary villager who eked out a livelihood as a tout in matatus plying the Moi University-Eldoret town route suddenly became a millionaire who now calls the shots in Uasin Gishu.

It is time the people of Kapseret consider getting Sudi off their backs and voting in a leader who will take their concerns to Parliament and go back home with solutions.
