On July 30, 2020, Chief Magistrate Nathan Shihundu ruled in favor of Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri, acquitting him of incitement charges at the Kisii Law courts.
The MP had been charged alongside his bodyguard Charles Nyakweba and one other person in connection with an incident on May 6, 2018, at Getanga sub-location in Sameta sub-county within Kisii County.
According to the charges, the MP allegedly entered County 45 Investment Limited Quarry without authority, blocked the entrance, and created a disturbance.
He was also accused of uttering words meant to incite locals against quarry workers at Masongo in Kisii County on the same day.
However, the Magistrate found the case lacking in merit and dropped the incitement charges, leaving the MP to face a breach of peace charge.
Obiri's counsel had filed an application to have the charges dropped, which the Magistrate will rule on.
The MP had previously been arrested outside Hilton Hotel in Nairobi in May 2018.
