It's been months since the pandemic brought the world to a standstill, and while some industries have slowly begun to reopen, the impact on employees and workplaces is still being felt.

For some, the return to work has been a welcome relief, but for many others, it's been a daunting experience. As Mwikali Muthiani, Managing Partner of MillennialHR, notes, 'the work environment is not as vibrant as it was.'

With the added stress of dealing with loved ones who may have been infected, or losing a friend or colleague without the opportunity to pay last respects, it's no wonder that many employees are struggling to cope.

As Muthiani points out, 'we have all encountered challenges that have shaken us and although we have picked many lessons, we will never look at life or our jobs the same way.'

So, what can be done to help employees heal and overcome these fears? Muthiani suggests that managers must apply more empathy in their style of leadership, enhance their self-awareness, listen more keenly, and be positive in their outlook.

It's not just about the employer, however. Employees must also look for ways to help each other heal and overcome these fears. By sharing their concerns and working together, it's possible to bring back some vibrancy to the office.

As Muthiani notes, 'since you have made an important observation, share it with someone who seems to have a positive outlook and together figure out how to bring back some vibrancy in the office.'
