Published on July 9, 2020, Huawei Kenya and partners have organized an online job fair to hire over 40 professional ICT workers.
The job fair aims to fill positions such as IP/IT Solution Engineers for the Enterprise Business division, Software Service Engineers, and Technical Solution Engineers.
ICT Principal Secretary Dr. Jerome Ochieng attended the job fair and emphasized the importance of expanding Kenya's IT infrastructure to facilitate online job transfers and enable Kenyans to seek online jobs.
Kenya's reliance on ICT has increased during the COVID-19 period, but the country is in a relatively good position due to investments and progress made in the last 10-20 years.
Existing infrastructure, online services, and e-government require talent to build, maintain, and support them, while advancing new developments to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and speed up the country's long-term growth.
Currently, over 80% of the population is covered by a 3G network and can access multiple government services online, do business, transact money, and get health information online.
The government is calling on the private sector to transfer some of the workload online to keep workers employed and reduce cases of massive job losses.
Additionally, the government is seeking to expand the Ajira Digital Programme to reach 5 million youths across the country.
Huawei has been actively involved in the Kenyan market since 2008, hiring thousands of local people and providing hundreds of internships through their Seeds for the Future program.
